ACENTUAÇÕES
Exhibition Curation

The exhibition consists of new works by artists Roque G, Edvania Moreno, Sarita Ferreira, Carolina Elis and Vania Andrade — whose generations trace, between 1985 and 1998, Black artistic practices and life experiences in different areas of Sintra Line (Lisbon) .
Through the immersion into the very process of shaping horizons around these everyday lives. The 5 artists propose cartographies and means of reading through which we stare from observed-observers view points; based on intercalary relationships in which each object signifies a critical spatial mark and all together indicate to us their footprints of sociogeographical resistance.

By going beyond visual lexicons and vertical identification models, the multimedia installations report interiorities of places displaced between Kova da Moura, Cacem, Casal da Mira and Rio de Mouro; since the KUBATA Artistic Residency period during April, 2024 at the Casa da Juventude at Tapada das Mercês.
A field accentuating similarities, asymmetries and shared silences that are made tangible in here; through images that activate collective stories, fabrics that testify to memories, paintings that speculate affective gestures of healing and grains of sand that act as traces of a body on its journey.

In the situation where images that activate collective stories, fabrics that testify to memories, paintings that speculate affective gestures of healing and grains of sand that act as traces of a body on its journey; These practices cross what the Martinican poet Edouard Glissant would call TOTALITY; in the rescue of this opening point that also functions as a temporary product of the residence the moment itself —  in the hope that these spaces immerse choreographies for us to think about praxis of kinship (beyond inhabited confines of location).

“ACCENTUAÇÕES” is as much about the particularities that unite us, as it is about the commonalities that contain us within the same structure tout-monde. The rain that is our movements and the power in the crease between projects where we accentuate emerging possibilities of what life, faith, justice and power can mean.
